The Ten-Year Call

The Ten-Year Call

Every ten years, the call of MIMOSA, the mountain god of old, rings out once more.
Spirit-keepers and plant spirits follow it, seeking the golden apple deep within the thorns.

The Campfire Rises

The Campfire Rises

For years, no one has brought back the true golden apple.
For the next expedition, you head deep into the sacred mountain, pitch a tent, and light a small campfire.

The Spirits Are Born

The Spirits Are Born

One day, five plant spirits sprouted from the nursery — memories left in seeds by plants the world below is forgetting.
Before setting off far away, you'll need to get to know one another.

Visitors on the Mountain

Wen Yi-jun and Yao Yu came to do research, and stopped to rest by your fire.
That night, you talked about the mountain's plants, and the journey yet to begin.

A Plant Field Guide

A Plant Field Guide

Before leaving, Wen Yi-jun gave you a plant field guide: "A name is only the beginning."
"The books down below keep little more than their names. How they lived — that's for you to bring back."

A Few Days Later

A Few Days Later

A few days later, Yao Yu came back alone along the mountain trail to your fire.
"I kept thinking about you all. I want to see where this story goes."

The One Who Keeps the Story

The One Who Keeps the Story

Yao Yu set up an easel: "My old manuscripts were lost somewhere on this mountain."
"Whatever the spirits bring back from now on, let me paint it anew."

There's still some time before the next call.

Your companions

Every one of them is a real plant that grows in Taiwan.

Get to know a spirit, and you get to know one more of Taiwan’s plants. Taiwan keteleeria, Wulai azalea, Nanzhuang orange… some are disappearing, some survive as only a handful of trees; the status on each card is where they stand in the real world. You start with five companions, your journeys bring you more, and new spirits are born with every solar term.

How it plays

Set out, come home — the camp remembers everything.

Expeditions run in real time

Nearby requests take about half an hour; the far ones, up to twelve hours. Bearing, Climbing, Cold-hardy, Drought-hardy, Water-loving, Symbiosis — how you pair the six ecological abilities decides what the trip brings home. Once they set out you can put your phone down; you’ll get a notification when they’re back in camp.

The camp remembers you

The spirits live around the campfire — mostly chatting by the fire, while some add firewood, roast a snack or doze off. Each time you return the camp is a little different, and those changes are the ones you left behind.

A new solar term every fifteen days

The world turns with the real twenty-four solar terms, so the season in the mountains matches the one outside your window. When the term changes, so do the requests on the notice board, the new spirits born that term, and the discoveries waiting in the mountains.

Every request takes place somewhere real in Taiwan’s mountains, and each spirit’s traits come from where its plant truly grows. Old Cypress, born of a Taiwan red cypress, walks into the misty giant trees of the Mianyue Line as if coming home — send a spirit to the right place and the trip is far more likely to be a Perfect run. Request by request, the names of Taiwan’s peaks and creeks start to feel familiar.

Beyond the camp

Step outside the camp — the mountains have more in store.

Trail questions

On every solar-term expedition, the trail shows you what Taiwan’s ecology is really doing right now: grey-faced buzzards passing south, beech trees turning gold on Taipingshan, white daisies blooming from rock crevices along the Central Cross-Island Highway… Read a short scene from the trail and answer one question — the answer is in the passage. Get it right and you add a trail note that helps you decide who to send; get it wrong and nothing is lost — it will come up again next trip. Answer all five questions for a trail in that solar term, and Yao Yu will give you a painting of it.

Trail questions

Lumber Run

Pack the tent and the campfire and head down the trail to gather firewood. Red imported fire ants, litchi stink bugs, fall armyworms… real pests that eat their way through Taiwan’s forests and fields crawl toward your camp along three paths. Every bug fears a certain kind of plant — bring the right companions and you’ll hold the line. Stars you earn turn into firewood, and every ten stars in a solar term add a bundle of Thriftwood to make the campfire blaze.

Iku’s farm below ground

In Taiwan’s Indigenous legends, people who are gifted at farming live beneath the ground. Follow Iku down through the entrance and you’ll find six of the People Below, each keeping a room of their own. Hand them the care items your camp can’t use up, come back a few hours later, and harvest materials for expanding your Rest Area, Dewwood that keeps the campfire burning all day, and relics hammered out in the Forge. The farm’s level starts over every solar term, and the Game Room has a wheel for trying your luck.

Friends: another camp

Friends aren’t a chat room or a leaderboard — each one is another camp that keeps changing. Swap player codes to add someone to your list, where you can see whose campfire is blazing today. Walk into a friend’s camp, look at the painting and the one line on their notice board, then head down to their farm and water their crops — you’ll bring a thank-you gift home, too. Invite someone new, and you both get a reward.
